We are (very) quickly heading into December: hello, extended shopping hours, family reunions, and lots of food we promise to work off in the coming year. For business owners the holiday season presents a golden opportunity to remind customers about products and services, and advertise promotions and sales, whilst having a little festive fun.
But easy does it – creating an atmosphere of celebration is not all about ho ho ho-ing Santas and candy cane signs pointing to the North Pole (however, depending on your business, this may just be your ticket to sales galore). If you're anything like me, you appreciate a little holiday cheer without having to blow away the fake snow to see the price tag.
Paddy's Market (pictured below) is lined with red banners that simply and effectively create an atmosphere of celebration in and around the market. The banners help to build anticipation and reminds customers that the market has what they need to make the holiday season special.
Holiday signage is not just a banner or wall graphic to remind us it's Christmas or Easter. Think about your ideal customer and how you can add to their experience at this time, which could see them coming in long after the mistletoe is gone.
Here are three things consider when thinking Festive Signage:
- Any type of signage and decor (even if only seasonal) should be consistent with your brand and continue to communicate the professionalism of your business.
- Does the signage (what is it and where it is placed) affect the customer's ability to identify or access products or services?
- Put signs (and decor) up too early, or for too long, after the event and you run the risk of annoying customers. Put them up too late, and the sales advantage the season offers may not get you the attention/response you are after.
