Introduction
Woodport Hotel, a well-known landmark on the Central Coast, recently underwent a full renovation. TCQ Constructions approached us to design, manufacture, and install a complete signage package for the site.
The project included external signage, wayfinding, statutory signage, and custom internal elements—all required to be completed in time for the hotel’s grand opening.
The Brief
The client required a signage solution that would enhance the building’s presence while maintaining a clean, consistent look throughout the entire site. All signage needed to align with a specific design style and colour palette, while also being durable and compliant where required.
Challenges
The project came with a number of challenges, particularly around installation and fabrication.
A key challenge was the aluminium batten walls used across the building façade. Installing signage onto these surfaces—especially larger signs—required careful planning to ensure strength and a clean finish.
The large feature “W” sign presented an additional challenge due to its size. It needed to be rigid, durable, and installed in a way that avoided any visible fixings or blemishes.
Internally, the client specified a unique roll-folded aluminium design, which required a non-standard fabrication approach.
On top of this, the entire project had to be delivered within a tight timeframe ahead of the hotel’s grand opening.
Our Solution
To overcome the batten wall challenge for the large feature sign, we installed the “W” by fixing past the aluminium battens and directly into the structural wall behind, using stainless steel pin fixings. This ensured a strong, secure installation while keeping the face of the sign clean and free from visible fixings.
The “W” was fabricated from stainless steel to provide the required rigidity and durability, while also preventing any blemish marks from showing through the face of the sign.
For other signage installed onto the batten walls, we used 1.6mm aluminium panels in a two-layer system. The base layer was mechanically fixed using countersunk screws, and a top layer was applied using a commercial-grade adhesive to achieve a seamless finish. All signage, including the feature sign, was powder-coated to the specified colour.
For the internal signage, our team worked closely with fabricators to achieve the required roll-folded aluminium design using a specialised tool, allowing us to match the exact look specified by the client.
Statutory and Braille signage were produced using a durable, scratch-resistant polycarbonate material, finished in the same dark brown colour to maintain consistency across all internal elements.
The Result
The project was completed on time and ready for the hotel’s grand opening, with all signage installed smoothly and without complications.
The final result is a cohesive signage package that enhances the Woodport Hotel’s presence and complements the renovated space. The combination of considered design, durable materials, and precise installation ensures the signage will perform well long into the future.
